Legal slavery was abolished in the United States in 1865, but the tragedy of slavery still exists 140 years later. In the world today, 27 million people are forced into a life of prostitution, manual labor, or as a servant to their owner.

Slavery is happening in San Francisco, throughout the U.S. and all over the world. Many victims are trafficked (recruited and transported) across borders only to be beaten, raped or abused.

Money is what keeps modern slavery alive. As consumers, we all prolong slavery through our contribution to the global economy. Ending the modern day slave trade is possible, but only through awareness and action.

Your choices matter.

Here's how you can fight modern slavery:

  • Be Knowledgeable
    - slavery and trafficking feed off the secrecy within which they operate
  • Spread the word
    - Let others know what you know
  • Take Action
    - join a campaign or write to government representatives
  • Know where your money is going
    - learn where the products you buy come from and who made them
  • Consider supporting organizations
    - help people who are fighting slavery and helping victims
